|The Wild Wings Facility
Our resident raptors can be seen at our facility at Mendon Ponds Park which is located by the Nature Center on Pond Road. We are open to the public every day from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm except Wednesdays, Thursdays and holidays. Parking is located in the Nature Center parking lot. The walkway from the parking lot to Wild Wings is a combination of sidewalk and pavement. The pathway around the facility is paved and wheel chair accessible. A rest room is located in the Nature Center.
The raptors can be seen by walking on a pathway around the perimeter of the green, one-story “barn”. The entrance is through the cottage. The birds are housed in enclosures called “mews” that line the path. This affords excellent, close-up viewing of the birds. *Because of the proximity of visitors to the birds noise and sudden movement should be avoided. Feeding of the birds is strictly prohibited as is throwing of objects. These are wild raptors and not pets, therefore hands must always be kept away from the mews to avoid serious injury. People not observing these rules will have to leave – no exceptions.
The Cottage Store at Wild Wings is accessible from a front door or through the back door at the end of the walking path. Food items for sale include food, snacks, water, coffee, soft drinks, hot chocolate and candy. Nature-themed items for sale include sweatshirts, t-shirts, plush animal toys, puzzles, framed and unframed pictures, note cards, books, buttons, book marks and many other items. Small bags of sunflower seeds for hand-feeding Chickadees on the nearby Bird Song Trail can be purchased. Proceeds from all sales go to support Wild Wings for necessities like food for the raptors and facility maintenance. In the winter snowshoes can be rented. Enjoy a warm fire in the cobblestone fireplace on chilly days.
Enjoy your visit! Our volunteers are always available to assist you.
* Wild Wings authorized visitors are permitted to take still photography of the facility's captive birds for private, non-commercial use only. No telephoto lenses are allowed. Photographs cannot be published, sold, reproduced, transferred, distributed or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner whatsoever.
You must stay behind the ropes at ALL times and keep your distance from the animals and their enclosures.
PLEASE walk slowly and speak quietly. The animals have keen senses and this is their home.
Thank you for your cooperation.
